Economic Abuse

Economic abuse is defined as controlling another person's access to money and other resources. Economic abuse happens across all socio-economic levels.

Economic abuse can manifest itself in many ways.

  • Preventing another person from pursuing education 

  • Exploiting another person's financial resources

  • Destroying or threatening to destroy another persons property

  • Forcing the person to abide by a strict allowance

  • Sabotaging employment opportunities and advancement

  • Spending the persons money without consent. example: the abuser takes a credit line in the victim's name or forces victim to get a credit card and then ruining the victim’s credit rating and future ability to get a credit line .
