Trans Day of Visibility was started by Rachel Crandall in 2009 as a day dedicated to celebrating transgender people and raising awareness of discrimination faced by transgender people worldwide. For Trans Day of Visibility, Equality for Health, Education, & Rights has created this image to show some basic steps toward being an ally and demonstrating respect toward members of the trans community.

Trans/Transgender is an umbrella term for people whose gender identity differs from what is typically associated with the sex they were assigned at birth.

  1. Do not out people as trans without the trans person's express consent.
  2. Be an ally
  3. If you don't know what pronoun to use, ask.
  4. Educate yourself about trans people and listen to trans individuals.
  5. Respect the terminology a transgender person uses to describe their identity.
  6. Respect the lived experiences of trans people.

This is not at all a comprehensive list however, being a good ally requires additional work. Make yourself and your peers aware of and donate to amazing organizations that work to improve the lives of trans people.
