Social Abuse is used to control a person by the use of isolation. The goal of a socially abusive person is to ensure that the victim is isolated from others in their family, circle of friends and in the community. Social abuse can also be isolating the victim from group activities.

One of the most troublesome aspects of social abuse is the fact that often times the abuser will tell others that the victim is imagining things or is abusive themselves.

Checking cell phones, or social networks without permission is a method of control and isolation. Abusers may also go through your phone frequently, check your pictures, foursquare updates, texts and outgoing calls.1
